Hey Reader,

The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away. – Pablo Picasso

I came across this quote I read from one of my mentors.

For some reason it struck me, not because I totally agree with it, but because I find myself agreeing to its opposite.🙈

My personal journey was more like:

I found my purpose in life in knowing my gifts – a.k.a. knowing yourself full well 🙏🏻and continuously doing so.

I find the meaning in life by giving it away – a.k.a. serving people with my gifts by building🔨 meaningful and beautiful things such as connections, businesses, art, music, or simply breaking through generational patterns.

Purpose in knowing your gifts🎁:

As I grow older, I’ve found a profound delight and contentment in getting to know myself well and better every single day.

When I get to know more about myself, my origins, about my lineage, my ancestors, why I do things the way I do, know more about God, our universe – this is when I feel I’ve found my purpose.

Like to simply know and understand who you are and where you came from – no, not just about the place you were born into, but the bigger picture, how humans came to life 🌏and its purpose on earth.

When I live like this – in awe and curiosity to understanding myself and my origins – I feel like I am living my purpose.

It’s not so I can ‘do more’ or ‘be more’ 🙅‍♀️ but it helps me really see how small I am in comparison to the size of the entire universe… and yet… I was given a chance to be here, to exist, to persist, to create, to connect, to build.

It’s really only up to me if I want to.

As I continue to live with an open mind 🧠 and open heart 💖to get to know myself and the different versions of me in the past, present and future…

I realise how truly connected I am to other people (even to strangers) and how connected I am with nature, with Earth, with God.

Sometimes, getting to see this connection that people often fail to notice, gives us a sense of purpose.

Like to exist in itself – present, awake, mind and heart open – is already a purpose. ✨

Ironically, as I live like this, the ideas to make meaning of life while I live here comes naturally to me which leads to the next point:

Finding meaning in your daily life by serving others 🙌

For me, what’s difficult sometimes is continue living in a broken world – not in a bad way – but to continue hoping for a better world when you see just how messed up the world is like in its entirety.

The more I understand how shitty society is and how broken it is to almost beyond repair, all I can do is find meaning in everything I do every day.

To some, their idea of serving others could be a picture of someone always inviting people to their home, or that generous person always giving gifts, or that rich leader leading a city.

But actually, serving others can be as simple as:

  • Being there to listen to someone 🫂when they are just talking about their day.

  • Complimenting a person to brighten🌞 up their day.
  • Saving that stray cat🐈.
  • That effort to throw the trash 🗑️in the garbage can.
  • Or simply allowing yourself to draw or make music🎧.
  • Sitting down to meditate🧘that raise the planetary collective consciousness.

There is really a lot we can list out here, but the point isn’t what you do, but how you do it.

Do you do it in service of others? Of animals? Of the planet? Of yourself that translates to increasing collective consciousness?

To find meaning in life, you have to give more of that which you seek.

Notice how you get more energy when you give it away when you work out🏋️‍♀️.

How you get joy by smiling first 😊 with someone and getting a smile back.

How you get more ideas by speaking it out loud💡rather than just keeping it in your head.

It’s impossible to receive something with your palms closed.

Final thoughts

The problem with purpose being associated with action (giving it away as Picasso mentioned) is…

…when we no longer have to do anything or when we no longer can’t do what people expect of us, we associate it with purposelessness and then uselessness.

That’s why people are addicted to ‘finding your purpose’ – they ‘get busy‘, they ‘do everything‘, they ‘try to be everything

They get attached to the idea that ‘purpose is somewhere out there outside of themselves’, hence, even when they already do a LOT (like A LOT), they still feel like there is a hole 🍩 to be filled.

In my experience, it’s really about taking a time to take a hard look inside and above and then around you.

Recognising who you are, getting curious about where you came from and realising how you’re connected to the entirety of the universe is when you find a purpose that is unshakeable.

It is to find meaning in our everyday life (aka living with conscious awareness and gratitude) by serving others (humans, animals, nature, planet) that we get to continue living less miserably. 🙏🏻

As always, don’t believe everything I say, test and see if it works for you.

I hope sharing this personal journey and interpretation of mine gave you an idea to craft your own meaning and purpose.

PS: Sorry, Picasso! Peace!
