If you’re feeling undervalued at work and can’t figure out how to increase your income, I get it, been there. There was a time when I thought that in order to increase my income, I can only climb the corporate ladder. It wasn’t until I learned these 6 tips that I finally seen months where I doubled my income and felt content as a creative. (TIP 3 WILL SHOCK YOU – READ TO THE END) 1. Learn to transition your mindset 🧠 from being an Employee > Intrapreneur > Entrepreneur.I don’t believe that there are only a handful of people who are meant to become entrepreneur – want proof? Look back in history. Before the industrialization, when we were still living very closely with nature and not greedy, we used to plant and hunt what we eat in exchange of goods with other people. There was a time when people didn’t have to work UNDER somebody, but only work WITH others in order to live. We lost this when so much greed came to the surface, and we’ve lost touch with our sense of connection, generosity, and community. With entrepreneurship, we share our gifts (as product or service) in exchange of somebody else’s goods and energy a.k.a money. Having a mindset of employee sounds like: “I will do what I am told to do and work only what I am paid for.” The mindset of intrapreneurs and entrepreneurs are different. Intrapreneurs are entrepreneurially minded person who works within a company. They are self-motivated, proactive, and action-oriented people who take initiative to pursue an innovative project. They understand that they exchange their gifts and energy for the founder’s resources + guidance while maximising the learnings they get. Entrepreneurs are, of course, the founders who design, launch, and manage new business which almost always starts out as a side-hustle or a small business. As you can read from its definitions, the defining quality of each archetype only differs from the person’s mindset 🧠rather than the money each archetype gets. You don’t need to hit your first 10k to call yourself an entrepreneur, you need to embody the vision, motivation and action of someone building from the ground up in order to qualify as an entrepreneur. 👉🏻 If you want to increase your rate of succeeding as an entrepreneur, you have to learn how to transition from having an employee mindset to intrapreneur first – there is no skipping. 2. Deal with the feeling of being undervalued🫂It’s not always the best feeling to be overlooked and unappreciated especially when you know you’ve given your best. There are times when we get overlooked because of politics at work, but sometimes it’s also because we have not thought a lot about what we really want. Whatever it is, I know by experience that the best way to receive what we want is to source it within.✨ Before you say, “But how do we get something that should be given by someone else?” Ask yourself: “Have I given myself the thing which I expect others to give me?” Example: If I feel undervalued and unappreciated, have you appreciated and valued yourself the way you want others to see and treat you? 💭 Have you talked to yourself in the mirror or written down on your journal the list of many things you are proud of and appreciate about you and your work? 💭 Have you muster up the courage to talk to your boss for asking for a promotion, career growth plan or a salary hike? By doing the first point before anything else, you automatically unsubscribed from the ‘mindset victim’ thinking that you need somebody else to see your work and worth first before giving it to yourself. You also realise that you can also give this feeling of valuation and appreciation to yourself ANYTIME without waiting for other people. It also gives you an added courage and affirmation that yes, you do deserve more so you can ask for more, and if they don’t give it, then it’s time to move or create that wealth. Strategically, once you listed down all your achievements at work, this same list is what you can also submit to your manager in your career progression proposal, so really it’s a win-win! 3. Start building + selling your ideas💡- it won’t build on its own.One of the quickest ways to feel your contribution is valued and expressed, while increasing your income, is starting your business or side-hustle. Oftentimes, the feeling of being undervalued and appreciated is rooted🌱 from our innate desire to create, build, and express ourselves and our vision – I call this self-actualization. In the Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, we can see that once our basic needs are met safety, belonging love… the topmost pyramid requires us humans to achieve self-actualization. What most people don’t know is, we can actualize ourselves in various ways – not only by climbing a corporate ladder or ticking off a usual checklist (graduate, get a job, buy a house, etc.). To some, it may look like starting a charity, selling your art, or creating music, building a business, I know I said 6 tips and the length of this email is already looking tiresome sooooo… I invite you to subscribe to my YouTube channel where I will post a video of this entire thread by next week!OMGG hahaha!
